Mr. Wijers is Chairman of the Board of Management of AkzoNobel. He joined AkzoNobel in 2002 as a Board member, and was appointed Chairman in May 2003. Mr. Wijers obtained a PhD in Economics in 1982 while teaching at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Later he became Managing Partner at the Dutch office of The Boston Consulting Group. He served as Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs from 1994 to 1998, after which he returned to the Boston Consulting Group as Senior Partner.
