About the GRI Conference

Who attended the 2010 GRI Conference?
The GRI Conference attracted thought leaders, experts and practitioners on the topic of sustainability and transparency from groups such as business, civil society, trade unions, academia and governments.

Who attended the GRI Conference in 2006 and 2008?
10% of participants at the previous two conferences were CEO / Board of Director level, and over 30% were Vice Presidents, Senior Managers, or Heads of Departments. Industries represented included automotive, food and beverage, mining and metals, apparel, IT, oil and gas, construction and real estate, media, telecommunications, and logistics. In addition representatives from finance, NGOs, accountancy, government and regulatory bodies attended the previous two conferences.

The inaugural conference in 2006 brought together 161 speakers and 1,150 participants from 65 countries. Roughly half of the participants were from Europe or North America and 250 originated from 37 developing and emerging market countries. Keynote speakers at the conference included Former US Vice President Al Gore, the Netherlands’ Prince of Orange, Professor Stuart Hart, Philips CEO Gerard Kleisterlee, and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner.

The 2008 Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency once again saw over 1000 participants; they were drawn from 58 different countries. 148 speakers eloquently addressed participants during the plenary sessions, arena debates and forum sessions. It was an honor to welcome, among others, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan and Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, Maud Olofsson, as well as Rajendra K. Pachauri Chairman of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize-winning IPCC.

At present, all Main Hall sessions are available on the GRI conference website. Parallel sessions will follow shortly.

As an individual, what registration category was used?
Individuals that wanted to attend the conference that did not belong to any of these categories - Corporate, Public Sector, NGOs, Labor, Academics or PhD and Master students - were directed towards the ‘others’ category when registering for the conference (see Registration Information page).

Was there a special fee for students?

GRI welcomed suggestions for sessions from its network. Requests were made directly to the conference team by email: conference@globalreporting.org.

The main language of the conference was English.
